Whilst the intent of the YES programme is to provide the workplace exposure. Implicit in this is the hope that employers take an interest in the young intern that could end in permanent employment. The YES statistics have been encouraging however it doesn’t necessarily translate to employment. There is a missing element!
The world of work demands a specific skill set. It is imperative that young interns internalise and master these skills sets to ensure a successful exposure that leads to employment.
Most importantly, workplaces are embracing the impact of technology and artificial intelligence. If the young interns go into the workplace prepared with these skills sets, their integration will be smooth, and their skills will be necessary.
